With a brief to create an immersive dining experience in the Adelaide Hills, our approach began by emphasising visual connections to the surrounding landscape.
Outside, locally quarried dry-stone walls create a linear division between inside and out. Inside, the palette of materials evokes permanence and tactility. Timber touch points throughout the interior contrast with the rammed concrete walls, while Australian natural stone table features elevate the dining experience.
The restaurant’s split-level floor plate allows all tables to soak in long-range views through a wall of glazing on both upper and lower levels. The lower level provides comfort for longer sittings, while the upper area was designed for more casual visits.
Functional areas sit between rectangular elements of mass, which provide a physical structure and delineate the space. Throughout the expansive space, a series of v-shaped nooks create pockets of intimacy and a feeling of seclusion where patrons can enjoy the restaurant’s renowned approach to contemporary Australian dining.
